Last week I finally found a window of time to cast on a new project for myself! (Always an exciting prospect!) It had to be something easy to transport as I was going off to a Hen Do that weekend, yes you heard me right, knitting at a Hen Do, but hey! knitting is fashionable nowadays (plus people would find it weird if I wasn’t there with yarn in my hand!).
After much scouring through the wonderful Ravelry I settled on something by Stephen West, but now which of them do I choose!!? Go have a looksie yourself at http://
Well he’s famous for his scarf and shawl patterns, so that seemed a good place to start….except that he has loads!!!!! I didn’t really feel like I’d narrowed the list down at all :s

In the end I settled on his latest Knit A Long: a collection of 3 different shawl patterns to have fun with and put your own colour stamp on.

Ok yet more decision making! But in the end I went with Lumpy Space due to its wonderful shaping throughout. Plus I had some love drops lace weight to use from The Yarn Cake ( in Glasgow which is full of colour and I’ve been itching to start knitting it!
Here is my progress so far:
A mass of clashing colours, with some bright lace cotton from Brazil mixed in as well. And yes I did knit on the hen do:
(How I wishing lived by a beach!)
Hopefully I’ll get time to finish it soon!

In about a year and a half I will be getting married! Very exciting! But I should properly start the preparations…right?

I think I’ll start off with the fun bits 🙂 and that means knitting!! One heirloom shawl to be exact. Technically I think these are meant to be knitted by a relative of the bride to be, but why give them all the fun!?

One of my favorite books is a stitch directory from vogue by Anne Matthews, and it is full of knitted pattern swatches to pick from. I am always delving into it and picking out ideas to swatch.20140211-140003.jpg
This time I’ll be concentrating on the lace section, as I reckon I should design from scratch to make this truly unique- although as Vixen said on Ravelry:

ANY pattern/shawl that you handknit yourself for your wedding will automatically become an “Heirloom”

Although I have no idea what shape to aim for yet, I can mull that over whilst swatching, and then of course there’s what colour to go for? Should it be my something blue? Traditional white? Bright and happy? Maybe it will depend on the dress…

If you have any ideas please let me know! All help is very, very welcome! 🙂
